The unforeseen circumstance in our business last weekend
The very reason I love writing is to connect with people who love reading. If you’re here just to know why we were closed, here it is, we wanted to take a break and soak up the last hot summer weekend of the season. And if you know Calgary winters, you’ll understand why! We spent time in the sunshine and now we’re rejuvenated and ready to cook for you again. If you’d like to know what & why we did, read on.
We aren’t your traditional Indian restaurant
We’ve never fit in the group culture or the ones racing for the hustle culture. We have and will continue to follow the less popular path. I mean that’s what makes us us right? In the hospitality industry long hours, burnt out people, endless shifts, no days off for weeks, toxic work culture is very commonly accepted. If you know the hospitality world or if you know someone who works in one I am sure they’ve told you this. Not at Soulkadhi. We choose to remain a restaurant that serves with heart, without burnout.
Food is energy and we always want to come to you with our best selves possible. So even if on Instagram we drew the boundary of just giving the bare minimum detail, this blog is for those readers who want to follow the journey along. Like I mentioned in the very first blog, I will meet you here as my true authentic self and authenticity is vulnerable.
Shame has no space when authenticity shows up.
So yes we did enjoy our weekend soaking up the sunshine, farmers market (love the BC fruits there), hiking and just relaxing. Which is your favourite Farmers Market in Calgary?
Impromptu plans
We love what we do, so not doing it is actually difficult, trust me when I say this I missed the kitchen so very much! I missed cooking and all the fun we have while working. Which also gave us a glimpse of what alignment is in a business and yes it’s okay to take a break even if it’s a food business.
Personal and Professional
Sharing on social media feels professional for me but letters from the chef will always be raw, I wanted to give myself the permission for once in my life to write without the edits (the societal ones) where we stop ourselves from saying the things we want to say, sugarcoats facts, beat around the bush or write to impress not express. This isn’t the space for that. I know the power of words, in the world of AI everything seems edited, perfectly curated but no heart. So since I’ve chosen the option to write with heart and without AI I might as well go all in.
Hope you soaked up all the sun this weekend and enjoyed yourself. We missed cooking for you & we are so ready to be back.

A glimse from our weekend!
Is it Soup Season already?
